Minnesota Code of Judicial Conduct

The Code of Judicial Conduct consists of FIVE rules, called Canons. The Canon’s regulate the conduct of judges and judicial candidates, and if violated would be grounds for a complaint, investigation and disiplinary action by the Board of Judicial Standards. The Canons are written and adopted by Supreme Court Order, just like the rules for the Board of Judicial Standards.

The Board of Judicial Standards

The Board of Judicial Standards is a board appointed by the Governor, with the advice and consent of the Senate. It is mandatory to have a certain number of judges, lawyers and residents that are neither. The board has jurisdiction to receive and investigate complaints against judges and make recommendations to the Supreme Court concerning allegations of judicial misconduct. The board is created by the legislature. The rules governing the board's operation are written and adopted by "Order of the Supreme Court".
