Looking Ahead...

Term Limits

We have begun exploring the possibility of re-challenging Term Limits for city offices. Our objective is to allow the voters to finally decide this issue.

You will be surprised to learn what happened in 1995 when the Minneapolis Term Limits Coalition tried to get term limits on the ballot for city offices; ..AND, how one city clerk (and four misguided judges) disenfranchised 20,000 voters!

"Nothing is more important today than reversing the pernicious rise of the professional political class."

National Popular Vote Plan & Universal Voter Registration

1. There is a nationwide effort, led by FairVote and others, to abolish the electoral college in favor of a National Popular Vote plan, and amend the U. S. Constitution to include Universal Voter Registration.

WE STRONGLY OPPOSE THESE EFFORTS! Both are misguided.

However, We do support a system (such as the one used in Nebraska and Maine) whereby EACH Congressional District Electoral College vote is given to the Presidential candidate who wins their respective Congressional District.

Nonpartisan Elections should be abolished in favor of partisan 'basis' elections:

Nonpartisan elections conceal the party affiliations of the candidates, restrict choices, limit accountability and weaken the voice of the people.

The law allows the candidates to seek and receive political party support, but deprives voters from such knowledge on the ballot, except in Minneapolis where party designation is permitted.

Nonpartisan elections also FAIL TO GUARANTEE that each party (and each qualified Independent) can be represented in the general election by limiting it to just the top two overall vote-getters. We often end up with two candidates from the same party in the general election. (see St. Paul and Minneapolis ballots)

A partisan format helps guarantee a healthier diversity of viewpoints and stronger, more transparent elections.

Absentee Ballots

We intend to work toward stricter rules governing the allowance of absentee ballots.  Current rules are lax, and leave too much open for potential abuse.
